Be stylish and sustainable. I am proud to have completed the Fashion Sustainability Certificate from the London College of Style, a 6-week course taught by industry experts on sustainable fashion. With this knowledge and training I am able to bring fashion sustainability into the heart of Styling L.A.B.

As a Stylist, I am faced with the hard fact that the fashion industry is considered by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to be the second most polluting industry facing our planet today. This is a difficult reality as styling is my passion and clothes are a necessity. I therefore wanted to learn more about how we can be mindful consumers and help play our part. Trying to make the right choices as a consumer can be overwhelming and shopping sustainably is not a straightforward task, however, I believe we can all start to make small, better choices that will have a positive impact on our world.

“Trying to act truly sustainably is incredibly challenging in the fashion

industry which relies so heavily on seasonal newness and consumption. At

Styling L.A.B., sustainable fashion means embracing a slower,

non-seasonal approach of style over fashion, and buying better quality and

more meaningful pieces which you will enjoy for longer.”

Manifesto

My sustainability journey is ongoing. It allows me to conduct my Personal Styling business in a more sustainable way, speak more knowledgeably to clients about how to shop sustainably, and make more educated choices when shopping. Below is my manifesto, outlining my commitment to making a difference:

I will always be as transparent as possible with you when giving advice on brands and how to shop more wisely when choosing clothing.

I am making more educated and considered purchases for myself and my wardrobe, and will work with my clients to help them do the same. My shopping ethos is style over fashion.

My aim when selecting clothes for you is to ensure they have longevity and are designed for long-term love. An emotional attachment to a garment means you will look after it better for longer.

My philosophy is to only buy what you love. Don’t settle for second best. Buy less, buy better and wear more of the clothes already in your wardrobe. When it’s time to move on, re-sell, donate to charity, or recycle.

I offer all styling services digitally, which means less travel and therefore less energy consumed.

I work with sustainable partners where possible, including fashion brands and office suppliers. I have taken steps to have more planet-friendly packaging: my business cards are made from recycled t-shirts, and I ship clothing items with compostable non-plastic bags. I also offer digital Styling Vouchers, rather than paper, to help save trees.

I integrate sustainability into my styling talks and events, to help educate others.

I offer styling services through rental platforms and pre-loved websites and stores, supporting circular fashion.

I continue to educate myself about sustainable fashion and am making adjustments when needed., i.e., building a list of sustainable brands which I’m constantly adding to, and looking to collaborate with like-minded businesses.
